There is a wisdom of the world that is so opposed to the Word and wisdom of God.
This time we are going to take a look at another aspect of sexual immorality, and divorce. Political correctness is all about allowing people the ability to choose for themselves how to live, as long as it does not break man’s laws. Laws that were for the most set up or redefined to come into line with God’s law. For instance it is still against the law to steal from anyone. One of the ten commandments ‘Do not steal.’ Stealing also involves coveting too, another one of the top 10.
Flee immorality. Every other sin that a man commits is outside the body, but the immoral man sins against his own body. 1 Corinthians 6:18 NASB1995
I think that the sexual promescuety revelution began in the Uk during the war. Much earlier than the sixties as we tend to think. There have always been periods of time in history, when sexual promescuity rises up in societies. In the sixties attitudes towards sex began to change across society. To the point that by the seventies, young people in the churches began to think that it was not such a big bad thing to sleep around a bit. Eventually taking on the idea of, ‘try before you buy.’ Not wanting to marry a person and find out later that they were sexually incompatable. What kind of thinking is that?
But because of immoralities, each man is to have his own wife, and each woman is to have her own husband. 1 Corinthians 7:2 NASB1995
Attitudes can, and often do become socially acceptable, no matter if they are good or bad attitudes. This is true of sexual immorality. So what is sexual immorality as it is stated in the bible. Basically, sexual morality is having sex for sex sake with many people, without any concern for the consequences, to themselves or the other people that they have sex with. The sin of sexual immorality has many different aspects to to it. Here is one which is still taboo to a large extent these days.
‘It is actually reported that there is immorality among you, and immorality of such a kind as does not exist even among the Gentiles, that someone has his father’s wife.’ 1 Corinthians 5:1
Another one is men going with prostitutes. Something that has largely been decriminalised in some western countries. The law that is in place is against solicitation, though it is not against the law for a prostitute to advertise their services in some ways, inc the internet. The point is that sexual immorality is not a lawless thing, in fact most things have become quite acceptable. It is all about the way or wisdom of the world that says that we are not allowed to have any kind of prejudices.
But it goes even further where the establishment has begun to say that we cannot label people as male or female any more. Even to the extreme of saying that children have to be allowed to wait till an age that they can decide for themselves whether they want to be recognised as a man or a woman, that they can be allowed to be given drugs that can block the production of hormones that define whether we a boy or a girl, But they cannot change the chromosomes that we are born with that actually make us male or female.
Being bold, I would say that sexual disphoria, is a mental illness. This where someone is supposedly confused about sexual inendtity. This is made worse by acceptance that this is a real thing rather than a mental deception. It is real, a real mental deception that comes from the evil one, the devil. These are thoughts that raise themselves up against the knowledge and wisdom of God.
It is now considered to be mental abuse to insist a person who is not sure of their sexuality that they are a man, we are not allowed to try and convince a boy with sexual disphoria thaty he is a boy; os a girl that they are a girl. We have come to the point that their isdebats about trans sexuals are eligable to compete in certain elete sports as their new chosen sexual identity.
‘for the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but divinely powerful for the destruction of fortresses. We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought captive to the obedience of Christ,’ 2 Corinthians 10:4-5
Political correctness is overriding the free will that God has given to us. It says that God did not give us enough choice. Political correctness is raising a standard as one higher than the standard of God. It is saying that God’s perfect standard is imperfect. Political correctness is speculations and lofty thoughts that are raised up against the knowledge of God.
The question of sexual immorality has been complicated by some of the teaching of the church on the subject, which is not really biblical. I read a book some 30+ years ago called the act of marriage, which was about the act of sex from the wedding night. The title of the book is the point, that sex is the act of marriage. So technically everytime one person has sex with another they become married to that person. Or as the bible puts it they become one flesh. Think about it then, if someone has sex with someone who has had sex with someone else, they commit adultery.
Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! 1 Corinthians 6:15
This scripture shows that through sex we become one with the person, not through a wedding ceremony. Even the wedding ceremony is not the covenant of marriage, the act of sex is! That can be hard to get our heads around, the only agreements made in the times of the bible were the betrothal agreements, and they were between the groom, his family and the family(father) of the bribe to be. Yet we say that God instituted the covenant of marriage, when there were not any marriage certificates or laws regarding marriage. The covenant of marriage has to do with the one flesh principle
The Word also Tells us that we should not be unequally yoked, talking about believers being joined/married to non believers. This is a kind of sexual immorality. A person joined, one with Christ being joined to a non believer. Can being unequally yoked also be sexual immorality? This question is solely to do with a Christian choosing to marry a non Christian. There are too many scripture relating sexual morality to share them all here.
There is something about the protection which God wants for us. He wants to protect us from ourselves, and our human earthly desires. He knows what they can do to us, where they can lead us. Usually on a downwards spiral towards debauchery, sexual immorality that causes sickness and diseases, some of which no cure has been found yet. It is not God’s plan or will that anyone of His children should get sick, sickness is an oppression of the devil. And our Father wants to protect us from bringing sickness into our own bodies through sexual immorality.
For this is the will of God, your sanctification; that is, that you abstain from sexual immorality; 1 Thessalonians 4:3
Our bodies are the temple of the Holy Spirit, as such we need help to keep them sanctified. That is one purpose of the Holy Spirit to help us to walk in righteousness. God tells us that if we live by the Spirit we should also walk by the Spirit. The Holy Spirit will never lead us into sexual immorality. At the end of the day sexual immorality is a temptation that we should resist by the power of the Spirit that is within us.
God clearly states that sexual immorality is a sin against our own bodies. The world says that it must be OK then because it is not a sin against God! Political correctness says that we cannot speak out against sexual immorality unless it is something that is against the law of the land; pedophilia, rape, beastiality. We are ok to speak out against these but not anything else! God says that we will bear the consequences of any sexual immorality in our own bodies in this life.
Adultery
Adultery is generally classed as one of the big sins, alongside murder. Yet the truth is that sin is sin. What is adultery according to the Bible? Is it the same as what the world calls adultery? Adultery is not against the law in most “Christian” countries. Though it can be used in law. First thing to say is that adultery is sexual immorality. The world says that adultery is someone who is married goes out and has sex with someone else. The Bible agrees with that but actually goes further I think. There is the issue with the difference between What the Bible classes as marriage and what the world calls marriage.
I wrote a book about this subject called, Marriage, God’s View. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Marriage-Gods-View-Charles-King/dp/B096HTQ4RX/ref
I know that there will be a multitude who will disagree with me, but marriage is as can be seen through the Bible is simple, two people committing to live a life together, and sealing that commitment through having sex. This does not necessarily include a wedding ceremony. Wedding ceremonies were not a part of getting married in Britain until the 15th century, people who consented to being married only had to register their decision. Wedding ceremonies as we know them, in Europe, did not come into being til the 18th century.
That said, if two people commit their lives to each other, and seals that commitment through sex, having had a wedding ceremony or not, they are married. If one of them then has sex with someone else then it is adultery. Biblically there is an exception to this. Men were allowed to have more than one wife, which is not adultery. Biblically although God’s best was for one man, one woman as husband and wife, men were allowed to marry other women. The difference is that having sex with someone outside of even multiple marriage with out taking the woman as a wife is adultery.
Multiple wives is not against the law of Moses. There is only one law that talks about this. The law states; that the king should not accumulate too many wives, that they turn the king’s head from the Lord. So although not God’s best and originally intended, multiple wives were permitted by God. The way it worked was if the man had sex with a woman he had to take her as his wife. Having sex with someone elses wife or husband was adultery. Joining yourself to somebody who is already joined to somebody else is adultery.
Jesus went deeper into this saying that a marriage commitment should not be broken by man. One reason He said, if man breaks the contract of marriage, then it causes those to commit adultery if they join sexually with someone else. Both men and women, even if they make the commitment of marriage. Jesus went beyond what the law of Moses said about divorce, saying that divorce can lead to adultery. This is an idea that is totally against the political correctness of allowing people the right to divorce for any reason. That is what the law in the UK says now.
The point is that adultery is one type of sexual immorality. This is just the tip of the iceberg.
