Here is a big truth, We are supposed to help each other not tearing stirpes out of each other. I know that there some people who are incapable of using a spirit of gentleness, when dealing with someone else’s sin. Maybe it is because they are hash upon themselves, when they stumble in the way. Maybe because they have always been treated harshly when messed up. What ever the reason, we are told to use a spirit of gentleness. Some Christians can be so law focused, that they miss the way of grace. That is what we are talking about restoring a person according to the grace of God.
Bearing another’s burdens, is to take the burden off from them, They do not need to carry it. We cannot release the burden from someone by making them feel bad, that only increases the burden, weighs them down. We bear another’s burdens by forgiving them, and reassuring them of God’s forgiveness. This is exactly what Paul is saying here in Colossians.
So, as those who have been chosen of God, holy and beloved, put on a heart of compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience; bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, whoever has a complaint against anyone; just as the Lord forgave you, so also should you. Colossians 3:12-13
God tells us to do, be what He does/is. We are to put on a heart of compassion, no condemnation here. A Heart of kindness, No kicking while down here. A heart of Humility, No Lording it over them here. A heart of gentleness, No chastisement here. A heart of patience, no conditional forgiveness here. We are not supposed to chain someone up, we are supposed to set them free.
My own experience is that someone has tried to bind me up with condemnation, guiltiness, and shame. When I have gone before God and given it too Him and been set free from my conscience, still they come back with, “ you got to show repentance and contriteness before me!” Because I have been comforted, encouraged, and strengthened by the Lord, it is seen to be pride on my part. This is not truth, the truth is that I have a confidence in the Lord that they do not understand. They wish for me to show how bad I feel show remorse, when the Lord has already lifted me out of that place.
If it were not for the strength and maturity that I have in my faith, in the Lord; If I were a young Christian weak in faith I could see how I could be turned off from following the Lord. This kind of treatment is like sowing tares in with the good seed. This is not good Christian behaviour. We should always be helping, nurturing, building up. That is a reason Paul said to look to ourselves in case we get tempted. Jesus told us do not judge because in the way that we judge we will be judged. We have to forgive, forget, and encourage one another. Building each other up in the Lord.
Bears one another’s burdens and thus fulfil the law of Christ. Galatians 6:2
Fulfil The law of Christ, Now what is that. We have to see what it is and is not. First it is not obey that law of Moses, it says the law of Christ. So it is not directly to do with obeying the ten commandments, but then again. The law of Christ is this. Jesus told us to, “To love one another as I have loved you.” This is the law of Christ, LOVE! Love is not the Father beating his son in anger with a belt. Even if he does say, “I am only beating you out of love for you.” Jesus did not beat anyone physically, or with his words to bring them into submission to Him. He did chastise by word some people, but He knew who they were and what they were going to do to Him.
To fulfil the Law of Christ. “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another,” We have to restore any one caught in any trespass or sin in a Spirit of gentleness. In humility with patience. I found this definition of bearing with people.
It means sacrificing for the people you love, even when you’re giving up something major. It means knowing, understanding, and accepting that your loved ones, friends and acquaintances are going to fail you. … All these things must be done in love. We have to bear with each other, even when it is difficult.
Bear One Another’s Burdens
I will leave it there for now 😉
